If FIFA sees value in our medicines, when will others?

E-mail Print PDF

There is an expression often used which says that a prophet is known outside their home first before they are recognised at home.  I found this expression coming to mind this week when I heard certain representatives from the FIFA medical conference expressing concern on the performance enhancing abilities of African medicines and their impact on the soccer players in the Soccer World Cup.

Who were we before this?

E-mail Print PDF

I'm always searching for roots of who I am and where I come from.  This may seem strange but the thing about ubungoma is that it puts you in touch intimately with your own family tree and you uncover a history about your forefathers (amadlozi) which you would otherwise never ever have access to.  The  pride I have in what I do and in who I am is because of the information which I get about the people from whom I come and their achievements against difficult odds.  This knowledge allows me to believe in myself and the secret strengths I have, to overcome and achieve whatever I set my mind to. To families of those undergoing ukuthwasa

E-mail Print PDF
Having become a Sangoma without a family history of it, I know just how confusing and difficult this time can be for a family.  Even as a discussion prior to finding the right Inyanga/Gobela and even just getting to the point of agreement in the family can bring to the fore divisions in the family.  As difficult as it is for the family to accept, I think the family also needs to understand what the potential thwasa is going through as well and also what it is that they require from you their loved ones.
