Bones and Tarot- Who can use it?

E-mail Print PDF

I get a lot of questions about the use of Tarot cards, crystals, etc by African Healers and whether this is ok or not.  Firstly, we need to understand that the ways of amaDlozi are inclusive.  Also, unless you know your full family history, you cannot exclude the fact that there may be different cultures who are merged into the making of you and thus your gift will reflect this.  This means they will manifest in different ways and abilities. Even if you are only exposed to one aspect, these other parts of you are also awakened.

For me using Tarot cards is no different from throwing the bones.  Amathambo have dfifferent meanings and the way they fall tells a story, just like Tarot cards.  The skill required to read Tarot cards are the exact skills and abilities required for Amathambo.  This extends beyond Tarot to the use of Crystals, using hands to heal (Reiki) and psychic abilities.

As a Sangoma, you may use all these abilities in your consultation including hearing and seeing the particular spirit that is speaking to you or through you.  There is no difference.

The difference would be in the training methods used as well as the "extra" items which one would have as a Sangoma.  Things like ukughidha, using imphepho, wearing amabhayi.  Even these though are really just superficial differences. So in effect I am saying there is no rule as to you can or cannot use this thing or the other.  You initiation is just the start in awakening the gifts which you have.  They will and must evolve as you get closer to your true calling and the more open you are to exploring all aspects of you, the more you will discover the hidden treasures of you.

Use what you are attracted to as there is a reason why there is this attraction.  Follow that voice which is opening different aspects of you to you. Philani.
